As A Man, Finding A Personal Style Should Be Simple
When getting ready for work in the morning or prepping for a date, one of the most innocuous but important choices is what to wear. The right outfit can make the difference between making a great first impression and camouflaging what you really have to offer.
In the world of fashion women are given carte blanche to experiment and embrace trends as they're presented at the fall and spring fashion shows. Men are encouraged to be prudent in embracing styles, at least adult men are.
As teenagers, you can see men playing with fashion and their identities but it is strictly within the rigid confines of already established trends. Jean skinny styles encasing the small legs of emo-boys or the oversized slouchy styles of the hip hop genre. Emulating your favorite musician should be the pastime of children and teens. What about adulthood?
Once the overly flamboyant fashions of the Victorian era passed, men's clothing styles have followed similar and fundamental rules that look fresh and stylish decade after decade. Three piece suits, vests, dress shirts, polo shirts, slacks, cashmere and even leather jackets are all timeless pieces that any man can adopt. The most important facet of these pieces is their fit- it cannot be overstressed that the defining characteristic of a great outfit is the tailoring involved fitting an individual's body.
The simple style of Steve McQueen with his jeans, lumberjack shirts and leather brown boots added to his coolness which translates as easy in the 21st century as it did in the 1970's. A stylish man owns who he is, much like the dark suit and skinny black ties of champion Muhammad Ali or white button down oxford shirts of actor Paul Newman. Silhouettes that are more than 40 years old still looks as sharp today- dismissing something that works is counter-intuitive to creating your fashion identity.
Clothing can advertise who you are and if you find a style that works for you, there is no imperative need to change and conform to the times. Being a slave to trends is too much work and a man's attitude coupled with nonchalance when it comes to dressing is extremely attractive.
Keeping the lines of your clothing simple and tailored will act like a blank canvas that needs barely any accessory aside from the banal like a men's sport watch, scarf, or ring. Men should settle into their adulthood without dealing with the cacophony of fashion trends dictating how they represent themselves to the world.
Why does my skin change the colour of fabrics?
I know this question has been asked a few times about people's antiperspirant turning their clothing yellow. However, my problem is a little bit different. Any light fabric I touch turns yellow, and any dark fabric I touch gets lightened (for instance, navy fabrics will turn light pinkish). My pillowcase is discoloured, but only in the spot where my head lies... my sheets have a yellow mark on them where I lay, but not on my husband's side. It can't be our water, since it only seems to be the spots I touch that change colour. I have been told that some people's body chemistry causes this to happen, but I can't seem to find any information on why... does anybody know? Thanks!
Actually, it could be products that you use (i.e. lotions, soaps, sunscreens, etc.), medications you take or even foods that you eat reacting with your sweat, your detergent or your fabric softener. It has to do with how your body metabolizes what you ingest and how your perspiration reacts with what it comes in contact with. Sort of like how asparagus or brussell sprouts changes the smell of urine for most people.
