Designing A Kid's Small Bedroom

Of all the bedrooms in the house the child's bedroom is always the smallest. Sometimes surprisingly small. This can leave you without much space for storage. When you don't have much room horizontally you have to think vertically.

When the room has to be shared it can be even harder to find space. The choice for this situation is usually a bunk bed. There are other options as well. A loft bed takes up the least amount of space because all of the space under it is still usable. These can be purchased, made or modified. Trundle beds work well. There is one primary bed and another bed underneath the is set on wheels. The secondary bed just slides back underneath when not in use.

If you'd like to add a desk in the room but do not want to take up the extra space, loft beds with desk are a choice. The bed is still on top and the desk is usually made into one of the sides so no additional space is used.

Plastic bins that can be stacked can make for a great organizing tool. All of you child's things can be organized and grouped and placed in bins. These can be open front where all things are visible. These make cleaning up quick and easy since everything has its place. If there are shelves in the room try clear bins with lids. These can be stacked as well. They must be clear so your child knows what is in them. Otherwise you will find all the bins open, without lids, in the middle of the floor because they were looking for one item.

Under the bed storage is an option. There are beds that come with drawers underneath. This is a good place for clothing or comforters. It can even be used for toy storage. A regular bed can have under bed storage as well. Long bins with lids can be purchased. These are made especially to fit under the bed.

Vacuum sealed storage bags are great for clothing. When seasons change all the winter or summer clothing can be placed in these bags and stacked at the top of the closet without taking up much space. This is also a good choice for when it is time to put away bulky comforters and blankets.

A shoe organizer that fits over the door can hold so many items besides shoes. It will always be useful no matter the child's age. It can be used for their collections of balls, rocks, shells, buttons, etc. All their art supplies can be kept in one place and each item has its own pocket. Even the paper can fit in these pockets. Each pocket can hold different colored paper of different sizes.

Use any one of these ideas or all of them to keep you child organized and still have some play space left over. To get the maximum usage of space the loft bed with desk is the top option. You can put multiple kinds of storage underneath and still have space available under it for play.
